Building Skills and Agency for Community Development

Soap making

Rural women are trained in various income generating activities, including soap making. Women groups in Aagureteng, Tampelle have been given skills training in soap making. They currently make liquid and cake soaps for sale in the local markets. As part of a synergy of interventions, they also supply soap to schools and vulnerable groups to help in the fight against COVID 19.

Shallow well

A survey by HOPE in the Nandom and Lambussie Districts revealed that many communities lack access to any reliable source of potable water. Women in affected communities spend a lot of time searching for water. Shallow hand-dug wells serve as the only source of water in some communities. In addition to education on COVID 19, we are advocating for the provision of boreholes for such communities.

Chief

Traditional leaders are powerful agents of community mobilization and change processes. As part of our efforts to have high citizens participation in governance, we engage Traditional leaders to support mobilization and self-help initiatives.

COVID 19 sensitization

COVID 19 is ravaging lives and economies the World over.  With inadequate access to water and hygiene education in most developing countries, there is a critical need for urgent interventions to bridge the information gap between urban and rural dwellers. Most rural communities in Ghana either lack proper education about the COVID 19 pandemic and the prevention measures needed, or they have misinformation that affects their response to the pandemic. HOPE has been conducting education sessions with women groups on COVID 19 and the safety protocols they need to abide by. These include the need for regular hand washing with soap under running water. In this picture the Director of HOPE, Dr. Naaikuur (man in blue shirt) is in a sensitization session with a women group.
